Football News revealed earlier today via Twitter that Kuban Krasnodar’s Sporting Director Sergei Dorochenko has confirmed that Djibril Cissé ‘will go to SC Bastia’.
However, Football News understands that the deal to move Cissé to SC Bastia is not yet complete. The negotiations have been drawn out for weeks because of the difficulty the two parties are having in terms of agreeing wages.
SC Bastia have been unable on several occasions to agree the ex-Marseille man’s salary but on the 23rd December both parties were close to striking a deal.
Dorochenko has also indicated that ‘two other French clubs are interested’. Football News can confirm that Montpellier were in contact with Cissé’s representatives but that their wage budget does not allow for the arrival of the former French international as well as AC Milan’s youngster M’Baye Niang who arrived at the club this afternoon.
Official confirmation of this transfer is unlikely to occur until next week at the earliest but the details are likely to be as follows. The player is expected to sign for 18 months with an option to extend 12 months into the deal for another year. The player will become SC Bastia’s highest earner in the process.
It is currently unclear whether or not Kuban Krasnodar will agree to mutually terminate Cissé’s contract but if not, the fee paid by the Corsican side is set to be minimal.
