After Lille agreed an undisclosed fee with Premier League side West Ham for the possible transfer of attacking midfielder Salomon Kalou, the player has been forced to rethink his future.
Initially, it appears the player would have preferred to stay with the Ligue 1 side after an impressive run of form in the latter end of last season’s campaign. He had severely struggled in the months prior to his sudden improvement shortly after the African Cup of Nations in January and February. He had been under extreme pressure by the media and Lille fans alike to produce better performances because the French footballing world was made abundantly aware of the monstrous wages he was on.
This is exactly the motivation for Lille agreeing a fee with West Ham to offload the player. With Lille’s position now crystal clear as to the minuscule part they want Kalou to play in this season’s campaign will the Ivorian be persuaded to change his mind and accept a transfer to the Hammers?
Jack Sullivan, the son of one of the two owners of West Ham United football club, David Sullivan has reaffirmed today that they are not currently in a position to sign Salomon Kalou because the player wants to play down the middle, behind a main striker and West Ham were unable to offer him this, only a position in the first team down the right hand flank.
Will Kalou be persuaded to change his mind or is he already too late?
