Football News understands that Mamadou Sakho has now agreed a provisional contract with Liverpool as he edges closer to an exit from the Ligue 1 Champions. Sakho’s representatives have agree a hypothetical contract with Liverpool should the player be transferred to the Premier League club.
Now they have done so, should the situation arise of a permanent transfer from PSG to Liverpool. However, that does not neccessarily mean the player will move to Liverpool, at least not outright.
There is a still a chance that PSG convince the player to sign a new contract and he is then loaned out for the season without an option to buy. Unfortunately, we have been unable to access this information as to the specifics of the negotations between Liverpool and PSG currently entail.
Loan or transfer, we honestly have no confirmation at the moment. We do know that should a transfer to Liverpool be on the cards, Mamadou Sakho has already agreed a provisional contract with them. Everything is in place for a permanent transfer from PSG to Liverpool, but it is up to the clubs to agree now.
The Liverpool Echo and Le Parisien believe a €13m offer was submitted by Liverpool. L’Equipe believe that a transfer of €16m-€18m is close to being agreed with the Reds. Other French media outlets believe Mamadou Sakho will sign a contract extension with PSG. When we have the truth we can give it to you, but we just don’t at the moment.
Either way, there is no doubt: Liverpool are very close to signing Mamadou Sakho in some form.
There are however other clubs still interested. AC Milan, AS Roma and Napoli continue to circle and there have been British tabloid reports today of a possible late surge from Manchester City for the player although we believe that to be very unlikely indeed.
