Football News understands that despite Italian reports, Mamadou Sakho is not ‘extremely close’ to signing for Liverpool.
Liverpool are the only side to have bid for Mamadou Sakho, a €9m bid 10 days ago which was rejected by PSG.
Mamadou Sakho representatives have held talks with AS Roma, AC Milan and Napoli from Italy. AS Roma approached the player twice but was flatly rejected because Sakho had no interest in signing for them.
Talks with Napoli proceeded slightly better than those with Roma’s but Napoli have not made any move since talks last weekend.
AC Milan are expected to launch a bid in the next 48 hours after they successfully qualified for the Champions League group stage.
Liverpool and PSG are in an ongoing discussion for the Premier League side to sign the player but the Ligue 1 champions want Sakho to sign a contract extension.
PSG are running out of time to convince the player to extend, but have not agreed any deal with any club to let him go yet. If PSG fail to convince Sakho to sign a contract extension by the end of Friday then they will proceed to the sale of the player according to a source close to the club.
For now, nobody has agreed a deal with Sakho, but Liverpool are the front runners should Sakho leave PSG on a permanent deal.
We stress the situation is complicated and changing all the time, so bare with us as we get you the latest on this one. The fact that multiple clubs are involved means that many offers could be made for Sakho in the next 4-5 days.
