Football News understands that Newcastle United and Arsenal have begun negotiations over the transfer of right back Mathieu Debuchy from the Magpies to the Gunners. Fee negotiations are underway, but contrary to reports from some French media outlets, no deal has been agreed or is close to completion.
It is understood that Arsenal wanted to sign Serge Aurier if Bacary Sagna had stayed, in order to phase the young Ivory Coast international into the team, but now Arsene Wenger is undecided, as there is a need for a top quality right back who can hit the ground running.
Although there is nothing definitive regarding Debuchy so far, talks have begun between the clubs. If a deal is reached between Arsenal and Newcastle, Football News understands that Debuchy will begin contract talks with Arsenal after the ongoing World Cup.
