Edinson Cavani’s father defends his son

In an interview with France Football, PSG striker Edinson Cavani’s father Luis spoke out in defence of the out of form Uruguayan attacker.

He had the following to say:

“Edy will not stop making the effort, even if he is playing down the wings, because the team is most important. If Laurent Blanc plays he wide, it is because he knows what Edy can bring there for him. I can assure you that he is very happy to be part of this team and to work with him (Blanc), because he is an open manager, that one can speak with. Since my arrival in Paris at the end of last season, I have had the chance to speak with him and I can confirm that he is a hard-working man. In this sense, Edy cannot complain.”

“Zlatan cannot play on the wings: it is a logical question. Up front, he is essential. Why would you want to take Zlatan out and put Edy in his place? The manager is constructing a team that functions according to the strengths of each player. Today, the players are pieces that the manager must put together as he sees fit. Edy very much accepts this. But obviously, if you asked him, he will tell you that he prefers to play down the middle…”
