French newspaper L’Equipe announced this morning that Premier League club Newcastle United are interested in yet another two players currently plying their trade in France’s top flight: Lyon’s young central midfielder Gueida Fofana and Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu.
Football News understands that the Magpies have been following Fofana for many months now, and that their interest in the versatile defensive player is by no means fresh. The club have yet to approach Lyon for the player, but he is undoubtedly a name that the Newcastle representatives will be discussing this month.
As for Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu, the club’s President has recently opened the door for the departure of a player who one has yet to see the best of in Ligue 1 thus far. The powerful 22 year old centre forward, with an imposing frame, has represented France at youth levels but has lacked composure and consistency to become one of Ligue 1’s more frightening attackers.
Again, Newcastle have not approached Sochaux for the player, but the Ligue 1 strugglers are happy to accept a bid of about €3m plus €0.5m in bonuses should an interested party come knocking.
