Football News can reveal that Newcastle representatives are scheduled to meet Remy Cabella next week to discuss a January window move.
While Football News is still unable to validate the supposed quotes from the player’s father Hector Cabella on Actuafoot.fr’s website today saying that the attacking midfielder will be signing for Newcastle this winter, we can reveal that talks have advanced in a forward direction.
Montpellier officials still do not plan on selling the player this winter and will continue to make negotiations difficult this month. However, if an offer is presented that a) meets their evaluation and b) includes the vast majority of the funds being paid immediately rather than in instalments, then they may be willing to recalibrate their position.
They opened up talks asking for a deal worth €20m, but may be willing to reconsider should Newcastle present the Ligue 1 side with a respectable, concrete offer. Something they have so far failed to do.
We await further developments.
Montpellier manager Rolland Courbis certainly didn’t hold back in expressing his thoughts on Newcastle this evening:
‘I hope another club (other than Newcastle) tries to buy him. They are not a big club.
Newcastle, as a player, I wouldn’t even want to spend a week there.’
Remy Cabella refused to comment on his future when quizzed after saying that if he did he would be sidelined by his manager after being banned last week from talking to the press about such matters.
