As Football News reported last night, Morgan Schneiderlin is likely to get his first start for Les Bleus at this World Cup against Ecuador, after a string of impressive performances in training. As Yohan Cabaye is suspended and France are all but qualified, it makes sense to give Schneiderlin a chance in a game that means very little.
Deschamps is also likely to rest some key figures against Ecuador, most notably Evra and Valbuena, with Digne and Newcastle’s Sissoko to start in their places. Paul Pogba returns to the centre of midfield after being dropped against Switzerland, and Griezmann will return on the wing.
In addition, Bacary Sagna will be given his first chance to prove his worth in this World Cup by Deschamps, with Debuchy to be rested. Debuchy has been somewhat suspect defensively in the first two games, so a good performance from Sagna here could earn him a place in the team for the knockout stages.
Lastly, Raphael Varane has not recovered from the stomach bug that has been troubling him in a last few days, so Laurent Koscielny will take his place at right centre back. Even though Koscielny is by nature a left centre back for his club and country, France do not have a right centre back other than Varance, so Koscielny will have to adapt.
Full predicted France XI: Lloris, Sagna, Koscielny, Sakho, Digne, Schneiderlin, Pogba, Matuidi, Sissoko, Griezmann, Benzema.
