Football News has learnt that FC Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes was in Monaco this week to catch up with former teammate and close friend Eric Abidal, but that he also sat down for discussions with Monaco representatives about his proposed future move to the club.
With Barcelona’s transfer embargo being suspended by FIFA this week, which will allow them to recruit during the summer transfer window, Valdes has been told by the Catalan club that he is free to go should he wish, but that the Spanish giants are willing to discuss a contract extension, should Valdes decide he wants to prolong his adventure with the current La Liga title holders.
AS Monaco and Victor Valdes had in effect agreed a pre-contract deal earlier on this calendar year but his cruciate ligament injury is believed to have put the move jeopardy.
It is believed that the talks that occurred this week were to get an understanding of whether both parties still wanted to go ahead with move. The proposed pre-contract agreed sees Valdes earning €12m a year.
Valdes’ agent has also been in talks with Manchester City in an attempt to drum up interest, but it is unclear how the Premier League giants responded.
