Frédéric Thiriez to quit

LFP President Frédéric Thiriez has announced that he is stepping down from his role at the end of the calendar year.

Thiriez, 63, has been at the head of French football’s two professional divisions for 14 years and following a savage battle with his colleagues at the French Football Federation in recent months over the proposal to change the number of teams that are relegated and promoted from Ligue 1 and from Ligue 2, he has decided to call it quits.

Thiriez confirmed his decision in an exclusive interview with L’Équipe.

Thiriez has been responsible for considerable changes to the French game, including the recent introduction of goal-line technology into Ligue 1.
