Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, AS Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibé discussed the art of the modern full-back.
“Everyone has an opinion on the modern full-back. I think for me it is about defending for 70% of the time and attacking 30%. The reference point for me is Maxwell, who has an ability to analyse situations well, to defend as well as in terms of coming forward. At Monaco or with France, it is different… is the attacker in front of you cutting inside more, or going on the outside? Ousmane Dembélé and Bernardo Silva often cut inside a lot, which allows me to call for the ball on the overlap.”
