Saint Etienne has completed the transfer of Brazilian defender Gabriel Silva, who joins the club on a three-year-contract.
The 26-year-old became the sixth signing of the summer for Les Verts, and comes with bags of experience in multiple leagues, including Serie A and La Liga, as well as back home in Brazil.
He was also part of the U20 World Championship side with Brazil in a side which included Philippe Coutinho and Casemiro as well as former Chelsea midfielder Oscar.
“When I knew that St Etienne was interested in me, I did not hesitate,” says Silva. “I wish the club reach the highest possible level. St Etienne fans are known to be very harsh and always behind their team. I want to do my best to live up to their expectations. The Italian championship helped me to progress defensively because in Brazil, we are mostly used to attacking.”
Roland Romeyer, President of Les Verts, went on to say “Alexandros Katranis is the choice potential and youth, Gabriel Silva is the experience and perfect mastery of his position. Gabriel Silva has already played in two major European championships, Calcio and La Liga. He knows the requirement of the highest level. We are satisfied with the evolution of our mercato. Our workforce is becoming more enriched.”
