Just hours after a report was published in L’Équipe this morning indicating that Portuguese manager Sergio Conceição was poised to remain at FC Nantes in the face of interest from FC Porto, the situation has been turned on its head.
Speaking to 20 Minutes, FC Nantes President Waldemar Kita confirmed that in fact the former Standard Liege boss was seeking to leave Les Canaris, receiving a phone call last night from someone close to Conceição who confirmed to Kita the manager’s desire to quit:
“I have confirmation that Conceição wants to leave and I am stupefied. I do not understand why, I do not understand… We organised everything around him for the coming season.”
Kita confirmed that he had had no approach from FC Porto. Conceição on the other hand met with Porto on Friday and his entourage is insisting that he wants to return to Portugal for personal reasons.
Kita’s position has not changed: he hopes Conceição will honour his new contract.
