A raft of injuries sees Didier Deschamps’ squad shake-up on Day 1 of the international break

France boss Didier Deschamps has had to face a raft of injuries on the first day of the international break which has somewhat shaken up the nature of his 23 man squad that is due to face the Netherlands and Uruguay.

Benjamin Mendy has with drawn with a left knee sprain and is replaced by Lyon full-back Ferland Mendy.

Anthony Martial has been forced to withdraw after suffering a thigh strain. The Manchester United forward was initially replaced by Alexandre Lacazette, who had to turn down the call-up following consultation with the French national team doctor Franck Le Gall and the Arsenal medical staff.

As a result, Alassane Pléa receives his first ever call-up for France, as a reward for his impressive former with Bundesliga side Gladbach.

Paul Pogba was ruled out with a thigh problem as well, and has been replaced by Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko. This is on top of the absences of regulars Thomas Lemar, Corentin Tolisso, Lucas Hernandez and Mamadou Sakho.
