After the Liverpool disappointment, PSG face a tough bounce-back opportunity vs. Rennes

PSG have a great opportunity to bounce back from their midweek Champions’ League defeat at the hands of Liverpool when they travel to on Sunday. Thomas Tuchel’s men are licking their wounds after Roberto Firmino’s last-ditch strike handed them a 3-2 reverse, but domestically they are on fire. A run of five wins out of five has seen them soar back to their usual spot at the top of the league table and they show no signs of vacating that position. They have the firepower to blow Rennes away, and Sabri Lamouchi’s side could be in for a torrid evening on Sunday.

The expectations on Tuchel could not be much greater this season. Predecessor Unai Emery delivered a domestic treble in supremely comfortable fashion last season, but he was axed because the hugely ambitious board felt he could not deliver Champions League success. Emery is now enjoying lower expectation levels at Arsenal, but Tuchel will be feeling the pressure after losing his opening Champions League fixture. Domestic glory is now considered the bare minimum at PSG, and he will be desperate to annihilate Stade Rennais in order to afford himself some breathing room.

available at their site, but before making a wager make sure to read their review.  On their site  you will see that PSG are the overwhelming favourite to beat Stade Rennais. This is something of a grudge match, as Rennes beat PSG 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in a huge upset towards the end of the previous campaign. PSG had already wrapped up Ligue 1 title glory and they fielded a weakened team, but they will still be keen to banish memories of that defeat. They also need to exorcise the demons of that midweek humbling, and Rennes could end up feeling their wrath.

“Maybe the score didn’t tell the story of the game,” said Tuchel after the Liverpool game, in a bid to deflect the attention away from the defeat. “Right at the end, we had the chance with Julian Draxler that could have won it before Liverpool scored. We put in a great performance in the first half. For me, the result was not logical or correct. We conceded two goals in the first half but never at any point did we lose our confidence.”

did play well and they should be confident of gaining sweet revenge by securing victory when Liverpool visit Paris in the reverse fixture. Until then they must content themselves with an away trip in Rennes. They have won their last three visits to Roazhon Park, and they have not lost there since 2011. Ultimately, PSG are far too good for their domestic rivals, and it would be surprising if they failed to destroy Rennes at the weekend.

Lamouchi’s men have made a decent start to the season, earning seven points from five games. They have been strong defensively, but they slumped to a 2-1 defeat away at Nice last time out. PSG will therefore fancy their chances of putting a few goals past Rennes, while the hosts will struggle to create chances as you would expect PSG to dominate the possession.

PSG are just 1/3 with bookmakers to win the game, but bettors can find a lot more value on PSG to win to nil, which looks appealing. Another option would be giving PSG a handicap, as they should win by a comfortable margin. Tuchel has already set a club record by winning his first six games in charge, and he will be keen to return to winning ways. He is set to unleash Neymar for the contest, and that could spell a lot of trouble for Rennes.
