Speaking to BeIN Sports, Benjamin Pavard reacted to France’s 2018 World Cup victory.
On winning the World Cup:
“People will type Benjamin Pavard into the internet and World Cup champion will come up. It is incredible. It is thanks to the team, to the collective, to the staff that put us in the best possible conditions, to the French public who have always supported us. It is a victory for an entire people and country. We are incredibly happy. This is the best day of my life. I hope to have more like this, but I am really going to savour this now with my entire family.”
On Lillian Thuram:
“He is an idol. He played as a central defender for his club, but as a right-back for the national team. He is a great man, it was an honour to be able to shake his hand.”
On his rapid rise:
“It is something quite improbable. This time last year I was still playing in the German second division. I am only 22. I don’t have a much big game experience. My work has been rewarded. At the start, I expected to play 10 seconds in this tournament. But I played more than that. I am very happy, but this is a team victory.”
