Bordeaux await final decision from Thierry Henry

Ligue 1 side Bordeaux’s weekend will be longer than most as they anxiously await a final decision from Thierry Henry over the offer they have made to him to become the club’s new manager, following the sacking of Gustavo Poyet, which was formalised yesterday in a 10 minute meeting at the club’s training ground.

Thierry Henry met with prospective new Bordeaux owners, American fund GACP, in New York on Thursday, in what was a constructive meeting. The former Arsenal striker has asked Arsène Wenger whether he thinks he should join Bordeaux or not – Wenger has strongly encouraged him to take the position.

Thursday’s meeting went very well, with Bordeaux currently offering Henry a long-term contract, which is why the Frenchman has asked for more time to make a final decision. Henry also asked for guarantees concerning the final days of the French summer transfer window.

Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi would arrive as Henry’s assistant manager at Bordeaux, with the former Belgium attacking coach also likely to bring in a fitness coach of his own.
