France captain Hugo Lloris has signed a letter that has been submitted by FIFPro to FIFA, asking that the football organising body allow 34-year-old Peruvian attacker Paolo Guerrero to play in next month’s World Cup, despite his failing a drug test.
Guerrero failed a drugs test in December 2017 after traces of cocaine were reportedly consumed by the veteran in what he maintains to have been a contaminated tea.
FIFA initially sentenced the player to a 1-year ban from all competitions, which was then reduced to 6 months on appeal, in a move that would have allowed Guerrero to play in the World Cup.
This decision was however overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the 14th May, who decided to elongate the ban to 14 months, thus depriving Guerrero of his World Cup dream.
