Hugo Lloris: “This is how we like to see our country.”

France captain Hugo Lloris reacted to TF1 to Les Bleus’ 4-2 victory over Croatia that has secured them the country’s second ever World Cup triumph, having been delayed from celebrating because of his selection for a random anti-doping test.

On the French people:

“I think my colleagues are a couple of glasses ahead of me in terms of the celebrations… I am looking forward to celebrating with the French people tomorrow, it is wonderful to see them joyous, emotional, that’s how we like to see our country and football has shown its power to unite again. We can be proud of what we have achieved.”

On his mistake for Croatia’s second goal:

“The most important thing was the saves I made, aside from that, I let things slide a little, I am hoping it remains a mere anecdote and that we can enjoy this moments.”

On being France’s captain:

“It is a great privilege, I want to thank all my team-mates for making France win, for allowing me to lift this historical trophy, even more so because my grandma was in the stands, my dad, my sister and my brother also, my wife and my two girls too. This is why we play football. There is a lot of work that has gone into this.”
