Official | AS Monaco confirm Samuel Grandsir capture

AS Monaco have continued their fruitful transfer policy of stockpiling young talent with the announcement of new signing Samuel Grandsir from Troyes earlier today.  Grandsir, just 21 years old, joins on a 5-year deal, leaving Troyes for a reported €3m fee.

Making appearances across both flanks for the recently relegated side, Grandsir found most of his success in a more advanced, right-sided attacking midfield role. The speedy winger provided three goals and four assists for Troyes in Ligue 1 action this season, doing his best to prevent the club’s eventual 19th-place finish.

After Troyes’ disappointing 2017/18 campaign, it was never in doubt that Grandsir would be looking for greener pastures. The Frenchman was linked to other significant European clubs like RB Leipzig, but the reasons behind his move to Monaco were made evident in the club’s official announcement.

Included in the announcement were a few words from Grandsir, who stated, “I am very happy to join AS Monaco, an ambitious club that trusts its young players and allows them to develop to their full potential. I will work hard to demonstrate my strengths and to repay the confidence the club gives me.”

Grandsir joins an already threatening Monaco attack with the likes of Rony Lopes, Thomas Lemar, and Keita Balde. If the French winger can quickly find his feet in Monaco, then the Ligue 1 side’s front four will be one to watch.
