Bordeaux have today completed the signing of 33-year-old striker Jimmy Briand from Guingamp.
The French international moves to Les Girondins on a two-year deal after a protracted transfer saga this summer.
The striker, who in recent years has been more frequently deployed on the wing, had his contract terminated by Guingamp to allow him to join Montreal Impact for a reported €300k deal, which then proceeded to break down.
A gentleman’s agreement between Briand and Guingamp that stipulated the former Rennes and Lyon forward was not permitted to join another Ligue 1 club, was then broken to force the transfer to Briand to go through.
The 33-year-old has spent 3 seasons at the Stade de Roudourou, scoring 32 goals in 118 appearances in all competitions.
Briand becomes the third signing of the summer for Gustavo Poyet, who had earlier in the window publicly bemoaned a lack of squad investment.
