Central midfielder Guessouma Fofana has today left SC Amiens after three years and 80 matches with the club. Amiens have sold Fofana to EA Guingamp, negotiating the 25-year-old’s transfer fee to €1m before agreeing to let their faithful servant go. Fofana has signed a three-year contract with Guingamp, and will join up with the team effective immediately.
Formed in Le Havre, Fofana’s career path saw him go from Le Havre to Boulogne to Lyon-Duchère to most recently Amiens, where he played from 2015 to 2018.The midfielder was a key part of the Amiens squad that achieved three successive promotions, joining Les Licornes when they were struggling in National before helping to lead them to Ligue 1.
Combative, strong, and tireless, Fofana excels in the middle of the park. The Malian, brother of former Lyon midfielder Gueïda Fofana, is also an adequate passer, but not necessarily capable of dictating tempo or controlling a midfield.
Regardless, Fofana is surely a welcome addition to a Guingamp side that has not welcomed many new faces this summer. Nolan Roux and Ronny Rodelin have been the only additions to an otherwise largely unchanged Guingamp eleven.
