Saint Etienne have completed the signing of Tunisian winger Wahbi Khazri from English League One side Sunderland, for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old originally moved to Wearside from Bordeaux in January 2016, making 42 appearances in total for the Black Cats.
Khazri spent the duration of last season on loan at Rennes, where his nine goals helped Sabri Lamouchi’s side to finish in a Europa League qualifying position in Ligue 1.
The former Bastia youth product captained his country at the recent World Cup in Russia, scoring twice in three group games.
Saint Etienne sporting director Frederic Paquet expressed his delight in having secured Khazri to a four-year contract at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard: “At 27, Wahbi has reached maturity. He not only led his team to the finals of the World Cup but he also managed to show his great talent in a high-profile group where Tunisia faced two of the semi-finalists”.
