Eden Hazard is Real Madrid’s for €100m; Paul Pogba’s wage demands preventing early double swoop

Real Madrid will officially announce the arrival of Eden Hazard after the Europa League final in which the Belgian international will participate between Chelsea and Arsenal on the 29th May, according to L’Équipe.

Today, nothing is stopping the deal for the 28-year-old to be united with Real Madrid boss Eden Hazard – an agreement has existed between the two clubs as well as between Los Blancos and the player for several weeks already.

The transfer fee will be around the €100m mark, a sizeable figure for someone with just 12 months remaining on his current contract. Hazard rejected multiple contract extension offers made by Chelsea in recent months.

The only thing still to do is finalise the announcement date – the Belgian – very attached to Chelsea in what is his 7th season with the club – wants to leave Stamford Bridge in an elegant and respectful way. Therefore, it will not occur before the Baku final at the end of this month and will instead happen several days after that.

Real Madrid intended to make the announcement on the 2nd June, had Barcelona won the Champions’ League final at the Wanda Metropolitano, but now that the Catalan side are out, they view it as not so much of a necessity that the announcement occurs the day after the conclusion of Europe’s premier competition.

Zidane is particularly delighted, having already tried in the summer of 2017 to bring the player to the Bernabeu – an injury to the Belgian and hefty demands from Chelsea blocked the deal from happening then.

As for the Paul Pogba deal, the Manchester United midfielder remains the other priority for Zidane. The financial aspirations of the French international are however causing problems in concluding a deal at present, with Pogba asking for €15m a year, which does not fit with the intended Real Madrid wage structure.

A source at Los Blancos uttered on the matter: “A Neymar or an Mbappé can upon entry be the highest paid player in the squad, but not a Pogba.”

The existence of Mino Raiola in negotiations – a face that many Real Madrid representatives still have plenty of bad blood for, is not exactly facilitating negotiations either.
