L’Équipe reported last night that St Étienne’s pursuit of 23-year-old Malian international and right-back Falaye Sacko is blocked owing to demands made by his club, Vitória Guimarães.
The Portuguese 1st division outfit want €3m for their player, currently under contract until 2022. However, ASSE have informed the opposing side that they cannot afford that – the situation is at an impasse.
The French newspaper suggests that the departure of either Senegalese left-back Cheikh M’Bengue or attacker Robert Beric would free up the necessary funds to allow ASSE to bring Sacko in.
One for the final days of this window, no doubt. If Les Verts fail to bring Sacko in this month, they fully intend to complete a deal for the summer transfer window instead.
