Thibaut Courtois speaks to RMC Sport about Real’s nightmare: “What has happened, has happened, that is football.”

Speaking to French outlet RMC Sport following Real Madrid’s 4-1 shock defeat to Ajax tonight, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had the following to say.

“Of course this is tough, this is a knock mentally. We play next on Sunday, we have some days. I am sure that tomorrow we will speak as a team. What has happened, has happened, that is football. Sometimes it is not nice but we have to pick ourselves up, find a new rhythm, desire and spirt. I do not think that we lacked spirit but we need to rework that. The end of a cycle? I do not know, that is not up to me to say. This is a team that won everything in the last seasons, with the same players, who are still of an age to be here. We know that we need to work hard again this season and go again.”

“The first goal, we made a small mistake, Tadic puts on good pressure, he takes the ball, makes a pass and they score a good goal. The second is a counter attack after a corner… you know that this is a difficult match after that. (Is there a crisis at Real Madrid?) That is a big word. We started February well by beating Atletico, drawing with Barcelona in the cup, we beat Ajax, we felt good. It is true that in recent days, it has been hard, we lost in the cup, in the league and now tonight. All of the big trophies are now a bit lost. We need to pick ourselves up, try to finish the season well, with as many points as possible and work for next year.”
