According to Brazilian media this morning, PSG centre back Thiago Silva has agreed a 5 year deal to move to Spanish giants Barcelona. This is also backed up by Spanish paper ‘Sport’. This comes just days after it was reported that Thiago Silva had told close family and friends that he wanted to go to the Catalan club.
If an agreement has been struck, (We as yet have no confirmation that there is any truth in this) then one can presume that a possible transfer is still a distance away. PSG have maintained throughout that they are not willing to sell the Brazilian who only joined the club last summer for big money.
President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has even gone as far as saying: “I wouldn’t sell Thiago Silva if I received a €1bn offer for him. He is not leaving.”
This is clearly an over-exaggeration, but PSG have been very clear throughout that the player is not for sale. On the other hand, however, can a club really keep their best player if he is really that desperate to leave?
Expect more on this one shortly. Whatever happens, presuming the agreement is true, Thiago Silva won’t exactly be the fan’s favourite next season.
Thiago Silva has since come out and denied the claims that he has agreed a contract with Barcelona. Globo Esporte claim that they have a document signed by both Silva and his agent that there is only speculation and no truth to the rumours he will be leaving PSG this summer and that he has been in contact with Barcelona.
