Speaking to L’Équipe, Marseille manager André Villas-Boas was less than optimistic about the ongoing Washington pre-season mini-tournament that the club is participating in this week.
“I want this tour over with quickly because the conditions here are tough, very warm. We just played against Rangers and we had a significant injury (Thauvin) and these are things that you do not want to have in pre-season. We are here to do better, we want to win. We have played in friendly matches, we played very well once, well another time and very badly in the most recent game. We want to continue our progress and find some balance. We need to avoid injuries, put the team in physical condition. We want to come back to Marseille as quickly as possible to work well before the Napoli match. We are also awaiting new signings. Here we need to win, respect the size of the club and avoid injuries.”
